How To Recreate The Clay Bookshelf Aesthetic

Updated: Sep 13

Hey, my fellow homebodies!

I'm back with a little project that I think could elevate your home and help add character. There are a few things I obsess over in my head that I would love to do but it just doesn't always fit with my home aesthetic. This bookshelf is one of them. If it can't fit in my home I need it to work in someone else's.

We are going to talk about how to recreate this look below:

Okay so, I'm in love with this type of shelf. You can buy one similar and paint over it (which in my opinion takes a lot of work but there are youtube videos out there recreating it) or you can buy this exact one from Urban Outfitters. They do offer afterpay and Klarna for their pieces so that is always an option. Let's not act like we are above afterpay here. Just make sure yall are paying on time!

You can buy those plants by the stem from Michaels, Target, Walmart, or Amazon. Personally, I suggest Amazon but I have also bought them from Target as well. They're usually around 4.99 to 5.99 a stem which is kind of expensive but as you can see you don't need a lot of them to achieve the look.

You'll need to buy a few vases, bowls, or art pieces that you like. Now the key here is to go and buy ones that look exactly like that. You will end up spending a lot of money. What I did, for example, is I took an old wine bottle that I had and recreated it. I bought a sample size of acrylic water-based paint in the color of my choice which cost me around $5 and mixed it with baking soda.

Yes, baking soda.

You mix the two together which will give you the clay look you're looking for and it dries within minutes. This same method can be applied to any other items you like. I suggest going to the clearance sections of Homegoods, Marshalls, Ross, etc, and painting over the items. See my wine glass below:

The eucalyptus stems in the wine bottle are from Target and they were around 2.99 for them.

If you want to add sculptures like the ones in the pictures you can also find those on Shein.

I am literally telling you to RUN to Shein. Let me show you what you can find for the cheap.

Everything below is under $10 which is crazy.

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me! Until then I will talk to yall later.
